How it Works

For accurate placement in the curriculum, students take an initial diagnostic placement test. Academic advisors evaluate the results and set up an individualized education plan for each learner. Students then begin working on subject units at their learning level as indicated by the placement test. Each subject (math, science, language, etc.) is comprised of ten learning units covering daily lessons, quizzes, tests, and projects. Students must successfully complete ten units in each core subject to accomplish a year's grade level of schooling. Students can work at their own pace (some faster, some slower) in order to achieve subject competency

Students in grades Pre-K - 2 use a paper based curriculum provided by Sandhill Academy. When each assignment is completed, it is sent to the Sandhill Academy for grading and documentation on the students transcript.

Students in grades 3 - 12 enjoy completing their daily schoolwork on the computer, working through scheduled assignments in the curriculum. Powered by Switched-On Schoolhouse® (SOS), the curriculum provides students a variety of interactive exercises, movies, animations, and audio clips that add to the learning experience.

Instant-grading features in the software allow students and parents to receive immediate feedback on academic progress. Assignment due-dates and past-due notices help keep students on their individualized learning tracks. Our highly qualified teachers enhance learning by providing additional guidance, feedback, and encouragement while monitoring daily progress.

Once students submit completed assignments, our teachers grade written paragraph answers, essays, and projects in addition to monitoring progress in computer-graded assignments. Teachers may also assign extra work or identify problems for the student to rework.

Communication between teacher and student is accomplished through notes posted to the student's message box, comments made directly on the assignments, and/or through phone conversations.
